STEP 1: INITIAL MEETING

This initial meeting gives us a chance to meet and get to know each other, as well as cover the items below.

  • Explain Dixon Taylor Construction Philosophy and Process.
  • Address all questions that the client may have about the building process.
  • Discuss the client's initial design criteria such as...
  • Lot criteria.
  • Basic architectural style and specifications of the interior and exterior space, size, and scope of the project.
  • Number of bedrooms and baths, kitchen design, outdoor living areas, etc.
  • The client may present pictures of details they would like to incorporate, as well as floor plans they may wish to consider.
  • Budget and financing.
  • Examine library of stock floor plans to determine whether we have an existing plan that fits the client's requirements, or if a plan can be modified to fit.

STEP 2: PRICE ESTIMATE

Dixon Taylor Construction will provide the client with an estimated price for the project as accurately as possible based on the specifications at hand within one to two weeks after the initial meeting.

  • If the price does not meet the client's budget, we will review and modify the specifications.
  • If the price is agreeable, the process will continue.

STEP 3: PLANS & DRAWINGS

The client has the choice to either modify an existing floor plan or have a custom floor plan drawn up. We will work together via email until we have all plans and drawings finalized and accepted.

STEP 4: SIGN CONTRACT & PROVIDE DEPOSIT

This is the time to form an agreement; the client and Dixon Taylor Construction sign the three documents that form the "contract":

  • Construction Drawings
  • Specifications
  • Purchase Agreement

The client provides a pre-approved letter from an approved lending institution.

STEP 5: CONSTRUCTION FINANCING

The client places a deposit of 10% of the purchase price (or other agreed upon amount) with Dixon Taylor Construction.

If the client is providing the construction financing then no deposit is required.

STEP 6: THE PLAYBOOK

At this point the client will meet with Josh, their project manager, and receive "the Playbook". The goal of the Playbook is to present the client with a valuable tool that makes the home building experience one they will fondly remember.

We've heard the stories from clients of how the process with their previous home builder was unorganized and often disastrous. Many said it was a cause of extra stress that could have been avoided with adequate preparation and information. The Playbook is tailored to each clients' home and breaks the "selection process" into manageable steps that will not overwhelm them. The Playbook includes the instructions for what the clients' roles and responsibilities are at each step of the home building process. It provides instructions on what selections (ex. Cabinetry, appliances) have to be made and their due date as well as the trade partners that need to be met with and their contact information. The accurate and timely information that the client provides us with via the Playbook will be critical in helping us exceed expectations for a new and beautiful home.
